Dental Surgeon with Special Interest in Orthodontics

Dr. Sama Weerapperuma

Dr. Sama Weerapperuma graduated from the University of Peradeniya in 1976. Following graduation, she worked at the Dental Institute in Colombo. Dr. Sama worked in the UK for several years in various dental schools. Upon her return to Sri Lanka, she established the clinic in Colombo. Her main clinical area of interest is Orthodontics.

In addition, Dr Sama has been a past president of the College of General Practitioners, and also as the secretary of the Sri Lanka Dental Association. She played a pivotal role in providing dental care for displaced people following the 2004 Tsunami.

Dr. Indika Weerapperuma

Dr. Indika Weerapperuma graduated from the University of Bristol in 2008 and spent over 9 years in the UK training and working as dentist. During this time, he was awarded a Masters degree in Fixed and Removable prosthodontics by the University of Manchester and is a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

He has also completed several other training programs in restorative dentistry, implants, and endodontics.

He provides high quality dental care with the best possible materials and modern techniques.

His main clinical interests include –

  • Prosthodontics – in which missing and broken teeth are restored to their correct form and function.
  • Endodontics- in which root canal therapy for teeth is carried out

Dr. Indika is an Honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester. He is unit lead in the Advanced Restorative Dentistry MSc program and has been involved in postgraduate teaching for almost 10 years.

Dr. Indika was invited by the council of the College of General Dentistry to enroll as a fellow of the college in 2023. This was in recognition of his contribution to postgraduate education and development.

He has a number of publications in the British Dental Journal, Primary Dental Care Journal, European Journal of Prosthodontics/Restorative Dentistry and the Singapore Dental Journal.

He was valued contributor to the BDJ book on Good Occlusal Practice 2022

Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Prof. Nadeena Jayasuriya

Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Peradeniya

Professor Nadeena Jayasuriya is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Professor at the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya. He has joined Kinross Dental Care to provide surgical care of a very high standard to all our patients. Apart from training in Sri Lanka, he obtained advance training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, UK and Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia.

He practices the full spectrum of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with special interest in dental implants, oral cancer, corrective jaw surgery and wisdom tooth removal. He strives to provide high quality treatment with exceptional patient care.
He is a Fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Member of the Asia Pacific Hospice palliative care network.
He is an active member of many professional associations of Sri Lanka and an advisor to the postgraduate institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

He has held numerous positions including:

  • Past President, Sri Lanka Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
  • Past Board member, Specialty board of Sports Medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo
  • Past Board member, Human Rights commission, University of Peradeniya

He is currently holding the following positions:

  • Board Member, Centre for Research in Oral Cancer, Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya

In addition to his extensive clinical practice, Professor Nadeena Jayasuriya is extremely passionate about teaching and carrying out research and has undertaken a full-time role in teaching dental students, diploma trainees and postgraduate students in dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in Sri Lanka.

His research interests include, dento-alveolar surgery, oral cancer, doctor-patient communication and corrective jaw surgery. He has won the prestigious Presidential award for research and publication in 2010 and 2019

Specialist in Oral Medicine and Radiology

Prof. Ruwan Jayasinghe

Chair Professor of Oral Medicine and Periodontology, University of Peradeniya

Professor Ruwan Jayasinghe is currently working as the Chair Professor in Oral Medicine and Periodontology in the Division of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He obtained his BDS degree with Honours from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and then obtained his Master of Surgery in Oral Surgery from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2005. He underwent overseas training at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong and certified as a specialist in Oral Surgery in 2007.

He was the Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology, Faculty of Dental Sciences and Department of Radiography/ Radiotherapy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. Professor Jayasinghe is currently the director of the Centre for Research in Oral Cancer. He is a board member to the board of study in Dental Surgery PGIM, secretary to specialty board in Oral Pathology PGIM and also member to the research council of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies. He was the president of College of Dentistry and Stomatology of Sri Lanka for the year 2015/16 and was the Vice president of Sri Lanka Dental Association 2014/15 and 2015/16. He is the co-editor to the Sri Lanka Dental Journal.

He has published 49 research papers in international and local journals. He has more than 90 research presentations to his credit and has authored or contributed to five books. He has delivered three orations including the prestigious Brito Muthhunayagam Oration of the College of General Dental Practitioners. He has given more than 30 guest lectures, contributed to Symposia and acted as a resource person in workshops and staff development programmes on more than 75 occasions.

Dental Surgeon with Special Interest in Periodontology

Dr. Zakiya Kamarzaman

Dr. Zakiya Kamarzaman graduated in 2017 with a Bachelors in Dental Surgery from the University of Peradeniya and has been working as a general dental surgeon in the private sector since then. She is currently following a Masters of Science in Clinical Periodontics (UK). She joined the Kinross dental care team in October, 2021. She focuses on treating diseases and disorders related to gums at our clinic.

Dr. Neluni Abeysinghe

Dr. Neluni Abeysinghe graduated as a Dental Surgeon from the University of Peradeniya in 2020 and has been part of the team at Kinross Dental Care since then. She currently practices general dentistry and is soon to pursue further studies in a specialised field.

Dr. Sakuntha Ratnapreya

Dr. Sakuntha Ratnapreya currently works as a Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry at the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya and is a part of the Kinross Dental Care team. He graduated from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, India in 2019 and has worked in clinical practice in both India and Sri Lanka.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ratnapreya is a researcher with 17 publications in local and international peer reviewed scientific journals. His academic role includes the teaching of Paediatric Dentistry for undergraduate students.
